Endless Blue Sky. 2022–2025
Sabile Art, Culture and Tourism Centre (former Sabile Synagogue)
15 November 2025 – 10 January 2026The exhibition Endless Blue Sky. 2022–2025 brings together a three-year artistic action that I began in the spring of 2022, shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The project emerged as a personal and creative response to fear, uncertainty, and the experience of living in turbulent times. Over these years, blue fabric camouflage nets were collectively woven in different locations in Latvia and other countries during workshops, performances, and participatory events.
The act of weaving became a ritual of care and resistance – a way to transform anxiety into collective action and to create a symbolic space of protection, hope, and solidarity. In Sabile, all previously woven nets are connected into a large-scale installation, forming a fragment of sky made by many hands. Sound, composed especially for the exhibition by kokle musician Justīne Nora Žilde, is an integral part of the installation and continuously fills the space.
The exhibition takes place in the former Sabile Synagogue – a building that carries the memory of loss caused by war and violence. Within this historically charged space, Endless Blue Sky reflects on shared vulnerability, remembrance, and the human need to imagine and care for a peaceful sky above us all.
